I hope you all liked my recent post on the DIY top!! Have u tried it out yet?? And if so why not email me a picture your finished top?? I have a question for you all though - can you see the pictures on my previous post and this one!?? Thanks :)
Here is my next post that I realllllyyy love sooo much!! My DIY your old dress into the new cute skirt!! :)
So this basically costs no money at all if you have had the dress for years, like I did, but if you want to try it out you can always buy a cheap one from Primark in the UK or some cheap store in the USA or wherever you are!! :)
Ok so here are my steps to create this skirt!! :
- Make sure that you dress has a waistband/ a band just underneath your chest or this won't work so well as you will have to make a band!!
- Cut off the top section of your dress above the band. If it has a zip leave that whole; we will deal with that later!!
- Put the dress/skirt on around your waist to make sure that it fits!!
- Now measure how long you want the skirt to be or where on your leg you want it to finish!!
-Mark this with some chalk all around the skirt at the same measurement leaving 2cm extra for the sewing of the hem!!
- Take the marked edge and cut it to your desired length!
- Now with the 2cm extra fold the hem over twice with each fold being 1cm!
-Iron the fold you just made as it helps it to hold better!
- Go to your sewing machine and sew the hem together with a coloured thread that matches your dress (you can also do it by hand if you want!!)!!
- You are nearly there!!
- Now get the iron and iron that finished hem to make it more 'crisp'!
- Now take the zip - if yours has a zip - and get some coloured thread that matches the colour of the zip. Stitch round and round over the top of the zip where you want it to end, to block the zip from going straight off!
- Once you have done this on both sides of the zip you can cut the remaining zip off the top so your left with a zip that matches the start of the skirt length!
- Now to make the thread around the zip stronger, take some super glue and CAREFULLY glue the thread so it is absorbed!! Leave it until it has dries making sure the glue does not get on the material!
- This is your zip finished so all you need to do now is make sure the top of the band has been cut neatly and no material is left from the top and showing!!
So here you go!! An easy way to convert your dress into a really cute skirt!!
